Definition: Toe taps provide traction and/or fill in space inside the front portion of the shoe. They also are used to keep one’s heel from slipping out of the shoe. The traction at the ball of the foot keeps the foot from coming forward and slipping out at the heel.
Toe taps are made of light foam. They are placed at the very front of the shoe. The material is not very substantial so they are subject to deterioration from perspiration and wear.
Halters are a similar product that is shaped differently and placed under the ball of the foot. They are made of a more substantial material.
Benefits: Where a person has 2 different sized feet or feet that are narrow up and down, toe taps can fill in the shoe so the foot is more secure. Where a heel is loose on a shoe, a toe tap can keep the foot from moving forward and sometimes that is enough to keep the heel securely in the shoe.
