Halters

Definition: Halters are placed in the shoe under the ball of the foot to provide traction and/or fill in space inside the front portion of the shoe.  They also are used to keep one’s heel from slipping out of the shoe.  The traction at the ball of the foot keeps the foot from coming forward and slipping out at the heel.

Halters perform much the same job as toe taps do, but they are shaped differently and placed differently in the shoe.  They are made of a more substantial material than toe taps, usually foam or rubber with a suede topping.  They are placed in the shoe under the metatarsals.

Benefits: Where a person has 2 different sized feet or feet that are narrow up and down, halters can fill in room in the shoe so the foot is more secure.  Where a heel is loose on a shoe, a halter can keep the foot from moving forward and many times that is enough to keep the heel securely in the shoe.
