Definition: An arm ergometer is an upper body exercising machine sometimes called ”a bicycle for the arms.” Some models are light and portable so they can be used to exercise the feet as well as the arms. Instead of using the feet to move the pedals as when using a bicycle, the unit sits at arm level and the arms are used to pedal. This provides a cardiac and upper body muscle workout for those who are temporarily or permanently unable to exercise on their feet.

Benefits: For those unable to exercise on their feet, they can still obtain an aerobic and muscle building workout with an arm ergometer. The lower body receives circulation and oxygen benefits even when the arms only are used in the exercise.
