Definition: BioOrthotics exercising supports are orthotics that are distinctive for inducing ideal foot motion, flexibility, circulation improvement and balance. Four arches are supported, creating balance from the center of the foot. Blood flow is stimulated by the massage motion of the metatarsal lift. The metatarsal lift exercises the muscles and ligaments in the arch, increasing flexibility and range of motion in all joints of the foot and ankle. Engineered to move the foot in an ideal motion, correct biomechanical rotation then occurs at the ankle, knees and hips.
These are the arch supports of choice for relieving heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis occurs when the plantar fascia becomes shortened, rigid and inflammed. This creates pulling and pain at the heel. The massaging action of the metatarsal lift in the center of the foot immediately lengthens the plantar fascia. Blood flow helps in returning flexibility and function to the foot.
These supports are prefabricated and come in 22 sizes. There are 2 densities. One is softer and will wear out in 12-18 months. The one with the firmer density will last 10 years or more. Sizing is based upon a combination of a measurement of heel to 1st metatarsal (not shoe size) and a kinesthetic balance test.
Standard arch supports and orthotics support only 2 arches – the longitudinal arches. Metatarsal support is used in select cases only. Design is based upon the theory that a foot needs to be positioned in subtalar neutral (straightening of the heel) before the foot can move as it should. Exercising and flexibility of the foot structure is a function separate from arch support design (obtained through stretching exercises). Most are made of rigid materials as this keeps the heel in subtalar neutral. This requires custom casting and creation of the support.
Benefits: The BioOrthotics supports do much more than supports that are based upon the theory that subtalar neutral positioning in the ankle is a prerequisite to ideal arch support. The BioOrthotics Exercising Support with metatarsal support increases blood flow in the foot, increases range of motion in all foot and ankle joints and creates flexibility in the plantar fascia. They are the arch support of choice for heel pain.
