For most, shoe shopping means going to a store, looking around and trying shoes on until something works in size and style. In many stores, there isn’t even someone to work with you. You pull shoes off the shelves yourself and try them on. If the right shoe isn’t there, it’s off to the next store in the mall or into the car to the next shoe store. It may take awhile until the right shoe is found. Sometimes the choice is made because it really is the right shoe, or more likely, time has run out and a choice must be made.
At Smart Feet, if we don’t have what you need in the store, we pull out the catalogs. Our arch supports/ orthotics are almost always in stock, as are many of the miscellaneous products including socks. Shoes may need to be ordered. Since we carry shoes in widths, we have much less space to keep fewer shoes than traditional shoe stores. Instead of going store to store, we order the shoe for you and you return when it arrives – that is how it works here. The vast majority of orders arrive within 14 days. Those that don’t are on backorder from the manufacturer, meaning they have not arrived in the US from the Far East where they are made. The shoe companies provide estimated arrival dates and we notify you when we are given a date, as well as when the shoes arrive.
Yes, it is a little different here. Most other shoe stores don’t assess your foot type to assure you of the right shape of shoe, the right kind of support and shoes that will make walking much more comfortable.
