Callusing on the feet is a risk factor for diabetics. Regular pedicures is one way to keep callusing controlled. Nail care is also important and there are some who cannot cut their nails safely or at all. Pedicurists have the tools and can reach the nails and callused areas better than most of us can, but the question arises whether a diabetic can safely get regular pedicures.
The answer varies depending upon who you are talking to, what your particular foot status is and what is available in your area. If you see a podiatrist regularly and pedicure services are provided there, it is probably the safest option. Also, it is probably best to have your physician or podiatrist clear you first.
