SCAPHOID/METATARSAL PADS
F: Metatarsal Bar
G: Metatarsal Pad
H: Scaphoid Pad
Definition: Scaphoid and metatarsal pads are gel, foam, wool or any
of those materials covered with leather, depending upon the manufacturer.
They have a sticky bottom so they can stay in the shoe or on top of a
cushion.
A metatarsal pad is placed directly behind the metatarsal bones to take
pressure off the ball of the foot. They are good for very shallow dress
shoes (women's) or men and women's slippers that will not accommodate
even the thinnest arch support. They should not replace firm or semi-rigid
arch supports with metatarsal lifts in all other shoes.
A scaphoid pad is placed up against the medial (inside) aspect of the
shoe and under the medial arch. Some shoes have them glued in. They are
not a firm or semi-rigid support but some report feeling better support
in their shoes with them. These are used in small children's shoes until
their feet are big enough for them to wear the smallest arch supports.
Benefits: These pads are inexpensive and quick fixes for shoes that
are otherwise too shallow to accomodate regular arch supports. For small
children, they are sometimes they only support available. However, for
adults, these should not replace regular arch supports in other shoes
as they are too small and soft to afford any real support to the foot.
To Purchase: Purchase includes a telephone consultation with you to
determine what is best for your feet. Size is based upon tracings of
both feet. This is easy to do and we tell you how to do it when you call.
Prices and warranties: $12.00/per pair. No warranty. Little to no break-in
required. Moves shoe to shoe and is washable with soap and water.
